Historic Building
Sage resides in one of Sarasota’s most famous landmarks, the historic Sarasota Times Building. It was designed in 1925 by renowned architect Dwight James Baum, the visionary behind John and Mable Ringling’s stunning Ca d’Zan mansion, as well as our Sarasota County courthouse. The iconic building was most notably home to Sarasota’s original newspaper and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.
At almost a century old, the building has played a significant role in Sarasota’s history. Many famous artists and architects have been drawn to it over the years. Amongst others, renowned abstract expressionist Syd Solomon had his studio and operated the Sarasota School of Art here, and from the late 1960s to the early 1980s, the famous modernist architect Carl Abbott also lived and worked in the building.
Renovated in 2019 and now home to Sage restaurant, owner Sharon Carole and Executive Chef Christopher Covelli have set their minds to reshaping the future of this beautiful piece of Sarasota’s history.
